JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE Tops Most Used Anime Catchphrase of 2014 List

Another Castle

Anime News Network reports that a catchphrase from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders has won the “Gold Medal” for the “Great Anime Buzzword Awards” given out by Japanese news site Gadget Tsuushin. The specific phrase from the popular David Productions anime adapting Hiroki Araka’s iconic manga, translated into English as “Rerorerorerorero,” has become an internet meme and was spotlighted on an episode of the short-lived Syfy talk show, The Wil Wheaton Project.

Phrases from other anime like Yokai Watch and The Irregular at Magic High School were also present on the list. Gadget Tsuushin also unveiled its “Great Internet Buzzword Awards” list, highlighting phrases from Japanese culture as a whole. The “Gold Medal” winner was the phrase “There are STAP cells,” referring to a new type of stem cell supposedly discovered by Japanese scientist Haruko Obokata, although the discovery faced wide skepticism.
